Recap: Bank Holiday Weekend - Nuneaton Griff

Hear from Wayne Hadley on the Bank Holiday Weekend action
Tuesday 1st September 2026

Nuneaton Griff 1st team unfortunately came away from the bank holiday weekend without a win, beaten 4-1 at Central Ajax on Saturday before falling to a 2-0 defeat away at Earlswood Town on Monday.
Manager Wayne Hadley has given his thoughts:
"A bank holiday to forget for Nuneaton Griff, in fact probably a month to forget.
We were going to have to muddle through August best we can due to constant unavailability from holidays, injuries, festivals etc. As a football manager it's been a nightmare, we cannot seem to get a settled side or find any consistency.
It's given me the opportunity to look at plenty of players who have been given the chance to play first team and prove themselves, but in truth at the moment it's been a struggle, so up and down in our performances.
Saturday we didn't deserve anything from the game, losing 4-1. We were a total contrast to our collective performance against Birmingham Utd, where we worked so hard and were cruelly defeated in the 95th minute.
Yesterday was a far better performance. We had some good possession and passages of play, special mentions for Joe Inglis and Harry John, two teenagers that were outstanding. It was disappointing to concede from two set pieces, then the game took a twist with Earlswood receiving a red card just inside the second half. They banked up and we really struggled to open them up and create any clear cut chances, again proving very frustrating.
I am in hope now we are into September we can start to increase availability on a consistent basis to try and gel a team together. I am totally appreciative that it's a results business, and if we cannot start to improve in that area I will have to look at myself and think about giving another person the opportunity to improve results.
We have put a lot of hard work in over pre season bringing in a quality youth team who have got off to a flying start with two wins, and nearly nine out of ten of those players are also gaining experience on senior football and doing very well.
We have created a youthful second team who have also got off to a cracking start and have a real cracking atmosphere within their camp. With this quality coming through it will heighten our strength in depth for the first team when numbers start to be available week in week out, and reward young players for their good performances.
Whatever happens, it won't be for the want of trying."
