Nuneaton Griff Conclude Pre-Season with Win at Chelmsley Town

Monday 27th July 2026

Nuneaton Griff wrapped up their pre-season campaign in style, beating Chelmsley Town 3-0 away on Monday 27th July, with a young Griff side running out deserved winners.

Despite a long list of absentees, Griff put in one of their best performances of pre-season, dominating possession and playing some pleasing football throughout.

Goals came from Jack Collins, Simon Short and Luke Shilton, who netted his third goal in three games, while a clean sheet capped off a strong all round display.

Manager's Reaction

Speaking after the game, First Team Manager Wayne Hadley said:

"As I said on Saturday, it's frustrating this time of the season, we had Gray, Faulkner, Petrov, Louis John, Harry John, Blackbird, Belcher, Piggon, Mills, Kingsman, Harvey, Inglis, Wassall, Wilson, Murphy and Thornton all unavailable."

"Then all the frustration was taken away with a performance like that, epitomised and orchestrated by Clay Powell, all night he was on another level. That's taking nothing away from the collective, all 16 players very comfortable in possession, played some pleasing on the eye football, the movement and gel was class all evening."

"Before the game I had asked us to manage the game better, treat it like our first league game, play to win. That's something we had been lacking, too passive, but tonight we stepped it up and put all that right."

"Goals from Collins, Shorty and young Luke Shilton, three goals in three games. The other pleasing thing for me was the clean sheet."

"As I also said Saturday, results in pre-season are not a necessity, but this Saturday it is, away to Wake Green Amateurs. Let's hope we can continue our form going into our first league game."

Looking Ahead

Pre-season now complete, Griff turn their full attention to the new campaign, beginning away to Wake Green Amateurs on Saturday 1st August, kick off 3pm.
